About Murasu Anjal

Murasu Anjal is a suite of software tools for creating, editing, converting and publishing Tamil content on Windows and macOS.

Our Journey

The software began as a passion project in 1985 when Muthu Nedumaran developed it as a hobby on a personal computer running MS-DOS 3.1. Through continuous innovation and regular updates, Murasu Anjal evolved to meet the changing needs of Tamil computing. The first Windows version, Murasu Anjal 5.0, launched in 1991 for Windows 3.0. Apple incorporated the Mac version, with two input methods and the Inaimathi font, into their operating system in 2004 with Mac OS X 10.4.

Transforming Tamil Publishing

Since its introduction, Murasu Anjal has transformed the Tamil publishing landscape in Malaysia and Singapore. The software became the backbone of virtually all daily, weekly and monthly publications, as well as printed books, in both countries. Recognising its impact and reliability, Malaysia’s Ministry of Education standardised Murasu Anjal as the official software for all 523 Tamil schools in the country in 2002 and 2003. Singapore’s Ministry of Education began the same process in 2008, and schools and offices there had Murasu Anjal installed in 2009. It still serves as their official Tamil input method.

Today, hundreds of thousands of users worldwide rely on Murasu Anjal for their Tamil computing, making it an essential tool for Tamil digital communication and publishing across the globe.

Murasu Anjal 12

Following our roadshow across Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Chennai, we are proud to introduce Murasu Anjal 12. It brings intelligent predictive input that learns your writing style, a wordlist editor for managing the vocabulary it has learned, built-in dictionaries, and Solvan, the text-to-speech reader. Alongside these, every font has been improved and many new ones introduced.
